If you live in a rainy area, roll-tops keep water from seeping through the top zippers. Too much? Roll it down to compress the space. Don’t have enough room? Unroll it and stick your bike helmet in. Roll-top bags are more versatile than zippered ones. ★ A roll-top Tom Bihn: The Tom Bihn Addax for $294 has become one of my go-to bags.

And the dense fabric and plentiful hardware-the zippers, O-rings, and buckles-make it a little heavy. Each bag has a lifetime guarantee.īecause the bag is so small, the pass-through on the back is only 7 inches wide-too narrow to slip over the handle of a carry-on. The exterior is made from Bluesign-certified 400-denier ballistic nylon with top-of-the-line YKK water-repellent zippers. The pen pockets are located in flaps on the side rather than in the middle top, for convenient access. Black Ember Citadel R2 Minimal if you absolutely must have organization.I learned I prefer light bags with full-clamshell opening, a single large compartment instead of multiple smaller ones. What’s worse, the tiny opening makes it very hard to access stuff, and unlike my Flight Pack X-PAC there is no bright orange lining to make things easy to find.Ī good albeit expensive learning experience (*). The waterproof zippers on the Tech pack 2 are also nice, but it would be more of a bonus than something I would base the decision on if it ended up being bigger than what I needed. Its not so much the additional cost that is making me not just go for the Tech Pack 2 but the size, I don't want to purchase too much bag and have it be needlessly chonky, so I just want to make sure I pick up the one that is best geared for what I'm carrying. Is it sufficient for a 16" laptop and 12.9 tablet (with keyboard cover)? Or would those 2 items alone mean I should really go for the Tech Pack 2? The Day Pack would share that main compartment, with a laptop main sleeve and a smaller sleeve stiched to the front of it. I see that the Tech Pack has 2 separate primary electronics compartments, 1 for laptop and one seemingly for a tablet.
